Our Buds
Meet our main men, Walden (Grey) and Guthrie (Ginger).
These two big fellas produce tumbleweeds that could have been rented out as props in old western films. At 10 years old they sleep approx 19 hours a day and rarely do so in the loving way depicted above.
Walden was adopted (and renamed) when his previous owner no longer had the means to care for him and posted that fact on Facebook. It was 2009 and once Alex saw the post, he was packed immediately into a car and taken to finish up his degree at Quinnipiac University, spending the next two years as a very spoiled house mascot. From there he packed his bags (or...was packed in a bag) and went south to Winchester, Virginia where his friend found herself employed in her first TV job.
One afternoon as Alex was on a run in Winchester's Old Town district, she witnessed a small cat get hit by a car. The trauma and sadness that overwhelmed her following that sight was only soothed by the idea of saving another cat. The next day she brought a very confused Walden to the Winchester Animal Shelter where he figured he was going to cat jail. Instead, she wanted to see if any of the furry fellas could get along with him. Alex asked for the shelter's most subservient cat. Shelter workers pointed in the direction of a very large female. That wasn't quite what Alex had in mind but soon she was corrected, "not her. The one underneath."
Once he was wrestled from under the fat cat, Guthrie (renamed, too) was taken home to join Walden and has served as his ride-or-die, friend/servant ever since.
